5 Video Games Where You're The 'Chosen One'

Destiny Has Entered the Chat

There’s something wonderful about being told the fate of the world rests on your shoulders (so long as it doesn’t happen in real life). Video games make that fantasy especially fun because you’re not just watching the hero rise; you’re guiding every choice, and it feels even more like you’re along for the ride. Let's dive into a few games that let you step into very important boots.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

In Skyrim, you’re the Dragonborn, a rare mortal with the soul of a dragon and the ability to absorb their power. Pretty cool, right? The game lets you balance destiny with plenty of wandering, meaning you can save the realm from Alduin, then immediately spend hours crafting armor, buying a house, or arguing with giants.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

It’s time we returned to just about everyone’s favorite realm! Breath of the Wild places you in Link’s familiar role as Hyrule’s appointed hero, though this time you wake up with memory problems and a kingdom already in ruins. The pressure is enormous, but the open world gives you room to grow into the legend.

Dragon Age: Inquisition

That’s right, we’re back to dragons! In this one, your character survives a magical disaster and gains a glowing mark (naturally). Of course, people start calling you the Herald of Andraste, whether you’re comfortable with it or not, and the game makes you question the title while still building a powerful political and military movement.

Mass Effect

Mass Effect does a lot more than you think with this storyline, turning Commander Shepard into humanity’s best hope against the Reapers. Alright, sure, you aren’t chosen by prophecy so much as by competence, but even as the trilogy unfolds, your decisions shape alliances, romances, and entire civilizations.

Final Fantasy X

To the surprise of no one, we had to mention Final Fantasy X! You play as Tidus, who begins as a confused outsider in Spira. However, his journey becomes tied to a much larger destiny—the story blends faith, sacrifice, and rebellion against tradition, giving its chosen hero role a bittersweet edge.
